To me, The Hallowed Hunt felt like a fantasy adventure book that wanted to be a romance novel. I wouldn't be too surprised if The Hallowed Hunt was written during a period where she'd rather have been working on the first Sharing Knife book.

It also explains why Civil Campaign, although fun, read more like fanfic from the Vorkosigan universe rather than something like Memory or Cordelia's Honor. By which I mean it was well-written and a fun romp for her established fans, but it didn't feel driven by the kind of concept and character exploration that are central to the earlier Vorkosigan novels.
